Summer Creek pounds Friendswood 48-0 in season opener

FRIENDSWOOD — Summer Creek and Friendswood were starting the 2021 season on the same level after both teams had identical 3-6 records with each missing the playoffs in 2020.

However, the Bulldogs had 15 returning starters off last year's team while Friendswood had only seven returning starters and it showed during the course of the game as Summer Creek took advantage of a Friendswood team that had numerous turnovers that led to a 48-0 pounding of the Mustangs at Henry Winston Stadium.

The Bulldogs beat the Mustangs last year 49-21, but turnovers, a couple of interceptions including one for a 58-yard touchdown by the Bulldogs, and a blocked field goal contributed heavily to Friendswood's loss this year.

Summer Creek led 10-0 after the opening quarter and added 17 more points in the second period for a 27-0 halftime advantage.

The Bulldogs score 21 unanswered points in the second half that included a punt return for a score to post the 48-0 final.

Friendswood (0-1) will take on Clear Brook (0-1) who also lost their opener to Texas City 35-32 in a close fought game.

The Mustangs will travel to CCISD Veterans Stadium to face the Wolverines on Friday, September 3 at 7:00 p.m.
