When Friendswood face Ball High last season, the Tors came away with a convincing 33-7 non-district win to start the Mustangs on a five-game losing streak. After the 1-5 start, the 'Stangs had to win the final four district games to have a chance to advance to the playoffs which they did.

Friendswood head coach Jordan Johnson saw a much different team take on the Tors this season as they came away with a commanding 40-18 win to improve to 2-1 on the year.

The Mustangs started its first drive at the Ball 48 and methodically drove downfield in seven plays, with the drive finishing off with a five-yard scoring toss from QB Josh Brister to RB Tripp Bateman to make the score 7-0 following the PAT by sophomore kicker Dylan Visintainer.

The Mustangs galloped off to a 31-0 first half lead and never looked back.

A 17-yard field goal by Dylan Visintainer on the next possession, gave Friendswood a 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Mustangs did their real damage in the second period by posting 21 more points on the scoreboard.

Senior defensive end Jordyn Crites came up with a big defensive play a few minutes into the quarter, when he scooped up a fumble and rumbled 21 yards to paydirt making the score 17-0.

Bateman scored the next two Mustang touchdowns, one on a 5-yard burst, the other a 4-yarder for the 31-0 score at intermission.

The Tors attempted a comeback in the second half with some fireworks of their own as they had three electrifying plays that brought the crowd to their feet.

The first came in the third quarter when QB Coreion Sanders connected with senior wide receiver Juwaan Woodbury on a 40-yard touchdown aerial.

Early in the fourth quarter, the pair bettered that with a 59-yard TD connection.

The final big play for Ball was late in the game when senior Jayvian Joseph fielded a kickoff at the 2-yard line and then weaved his way through the Friendswood defense for a 98-yard return for a touchdown.

Friendswood’s final points came on a 4-yard run by Charlie Moore and a 43-yard field goal by Visintainer.

The Mustangs have an OPEN date this Friday but will travel to La Porte on Friday, September 26 to play the Bulldogs in a league contest at the school’s brand-spankin’ new stadium.
