Baytown Lee pulls out 30-23 win over Friendswood

FRIENDSWOOD — With the game tied 23-23 between Friendswood and Baytown Lee with only 25 seconds left in the District 9-5A-I contest, Lee quarterback Christian Olige found wide receiver Ja'Corey Boston open between two defenders for the game-winning touchdown while handing the Mustangs their third straight loss this season.

With 2:42 left in the fourth quarter, Friendswood's Noah Palitz scored on a 1-yard run with Conner Rickards hitting the game-tying PAT making the score 23 apiece.

But it took only five plays for the Ganders to score the winning touchdown sparked by a huge 59-yard run by Olige to the Friendswood 16.

After a few penalties by both teams, Olige found Boston for the game-winning score.

Friendswood's Isaiah Daniels scored the first points for Lee on a 1-yard scoring plunge, but the PAT was not good leaving the Mustangs with a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

But Lee answered with a 72-yard scoring march that was set up by a 48-yard catch-and-run play from Olige to Andrian Boston to set up the score by Ja'Kenan Davis. The PAT was good leaving Lee in front 7-6.

Both teams got field goals as Boston hit a 24-yarder for Lee and Rickards nailed a 31-yarder for Friendswood making the score 10-9.

Lee took a 17-9 halftime lead when Olige led the Ganders on a seven-play, 60-yard drive that ended with a 6-yard scoring toss to Trudell Berry with 24 seconds left.

Olige was the key to the Ganders offense as he had 214 yards passing and 118 yards on the ground for a total of 332 yards. Lee had a team total of 443 yards.

Davis added 100 yards on the ground that included a 51-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Palitz scored a couple of second half touchdowns with 154 yards rushing while Isaiah Daniels had 111 yards rushing.
