FRIENDSWOOD — It was another playoff season for the Friendswood Mustangs under head coach Robert Koopmann.

The Mustangs have continued to thrive under Koopmann's leadership over the past four seasons and haven't missed the post-season under his leadership.

Friendswood closed out the 2015 football campaign with a third round loss to eventual state champion Katy who defeated Austin Lake Travis 34-7 for their eighth state title to tie Southlake Carroll and Celina for the most state championships of any high school in Texas.

The Mustangs finished third in the District 24-6A standings (5-2) and ended the season with an 8-5 mark. Koopmann is now 33-15 over his four years as the Friendswood head coach.

Junior QB Tyler Page had a banner season for the Mustangs in leading the offense to video-like numbers.

The elusive signal-caller had one of the more productive seasons in recent memory especially his ability to run the football.

Page was 82-for-162 passing for 1,179 yards and 13 TDs with eight INTs. He had 333 carries for 2,124 yards and 24 TDs giving him a total of 3,303 yards and 37 TDs.

Only former QB Jordan Wood (2012) has more rushing yards and touchdowns in a single season with 2,368 yards and 40 TDs.

Page was named as the 2015 District 24-6A Offensive Player of the Year.

Joining Page on the All-District first-team was junior offensive lineman Connor Stanford who will return for the 2016 season to anchor the offensive line and pave the way for another great effort by Page and others.

The Friendswood defense had a good showing this season against some strong competition.

Named to the All-District first-team was senior defensive end Ty Shelby who was recently named to the Associated Press All-State team.

Joining Shelby on the first-team was senior linebacker D'Aundre Holmes-Wilfork, senior defensive back Nick DeHoyos (5 INTs) and jr. kicker Cody Williamson.

Second-team offensive selections included sophomore running back Mason Barnes (170 carries, 754 yards, 5 TDs), senior tight end Cade Roenne, and lineman Nicky Stevens.

Second-team defensive selections included senior linemen Matt Russo and Peter Gray.

Friendswood will have a solid and experienced squad returning for the 2016 football season.
