Friendswood boys drop district opener

PEARLAND — Friendswood boys made their District 24-6A basketball debut against Clear Falls and the Mustangs came up short 59-54 in overtime.

Clear Falls (14-5, 1-0) led for most of the game, but in true character fashion, Friendswood wasn't going to go down without a fight.

The Knights led by nine-points midway through the fourth period, but the Mustangs stormed back late with an eight-point run to take the lead. The game ended 52-52 in regulation setting up an extra period for the two teams.

Both teams traded baskets making the score 54-54. Clear Falls went into a stall and with less than a minuted to play in OT, junior guard Tyler Carter fired a long-range shot from the left corner who found the mark giving the Knights a 57-54 advantage with 54.7 to play.

Friendswood drove the lane in attempt to score on a layup, but Carter was the star on defense as well as he drew a charge giving Clear Falls the ball.

Carter scored again with only 30 seconds left on a 2-pointer making the score 59-54.

The Mustangs were unable to answer in the end as time ran out giving the Knights the big win.

Friendswood senior forward Adam Hinchcliffe led all scorers with 27 points adding seven rebounds and five block on a stellar performance.

Carter led the Knights with 19 points, seven rebounds while teammate Drew Chronister finished with 16 points, 10 boards, and two assists.
