Friendswood splits district games

Friendswood 44 Dickinson 37

The Dickinson Gators (1-4) built a 24-11 halftime lead only to watch the never-say-die Friendswood Mustangs (3-2) dissolve the lead in the second half to win 44-37.

Friendswood needed the victory to stay in the playoff hunt for this season.

The Gators outscored the Mustangs 12-4 in the opening quarter and 12-7 in the second.

The Mustangs bounced back their comeback with a 12-5 third and then got hot in the final eight minutes with a 21-8 run to get the critical win.

Adam Hinchcliffe led the Mustang charge with 16 points while Brandon Phelps tallied 15 points.


Clear Creek 60 - Friendswood 43

Clear Creek outscored Friendswood 19-5 in the opening period and the Mustangs were unable to recover with the Wildcats taking a 60-43 win in a district showdown.

Creek (4-0 in District 24-6A) handed Friendswood (2-2) their second loss in District 24-6A action.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 33-15 at intermission.

The 'Cats won the third quarter 14-11 before the Mustangs rallied to take the final period 17-13, but it was too little, too late.

Adam Hinchcliffe led the Mustangs, scoring a game-high 16 points.
