Lady Mustangs capture 22-5A soccer crown

FRIENDSWOOD — The No. 14 state-ranked Friendswood Lady Mustangs shutout the Crosby Lady Cougars 7-0 to improve to 12-0 in league action and 19-2-1 overall for the season.

Senior Olivia Rhodes continues to lead the Lady 'Stangs scoring her 31st, 32nd, and 33rd goals of the season. She also added an assist bringing her season total to 24 in that category.

Even more impressive, the Friendswood defense has not allowed a goal in league competition thanks to a strong aggressive defense and the strong work of junior keeper Katie Reyes.

Friendswood scored in the first minute of the game when Rhodes sent a pass to freshman Nikki Palitz who fired a shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Mustangs increased the lead to 2-0 in the 12th minute when Rhodes scored her first of her three goals.

A minute later, Rhodes struck again with her second goal with 13 minutes gone in the first half for a 3-0 advantage.

The final goal of the first half was made by Pumarie Madden who fired a shot in the back of the net for a 4-0 lead at intermission.

Friendswood senior Madysen Lutz got into the scoring column early in the second half for a 5-0 lead.

Rhodes completed her hat trick in the 67th minute with a shot just past the outstretched arms of the Crosby keeper for a 6-0 lead.

The Lady 'Stangs put the finishing touches on the game when junior Amery Saldana took a long shot from outside the penalty box to find the back of the net for the 7-0 victory.

Friendswood will host Baytown Lee on Tuesday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Henry Winston Stadium.
