Local gridiron standouts named to Bayou Bowl rosters

FRIENDSWOOD, MANVEL — Senior football standouts from more than 50 public high schools in the Houston area were selected to play in the 16th Bayou Bowl, scheduled for 7 p.m., June 9 at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown.

The game features an East vs. West format for the fifth consecutive season, previously including All-Stars facing off from Texas and Louisiana. The West has won every game since the format changed in 2014, by scores of 7-0, 27-9, 14-9 and 30-17. Last year's game was played at Turner Stadium in Humble.

Two Friendswood standouts were named to the East squad. They are wide receiver Nick Swaney and placekicker Sam Wittman.

Swaney signed a letter-of-intent to continue his education and playing career with Texas A&M at Commerce. Swaney was a second-team All-District 24-6A pick this past season.

Wittman was a first-team All-District selection.

Named to the West squad was Manvel offensive lineman Lance Jones. Jones was named to the All-District 23-5A first-team.
