Lady Mustangs pick up first district win

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Lady Mustangs finally picked up their first District 24-6A victory over the Dickinson Lady Gators 6-3.

It has been a struggle for Friendswood to finally get that first league win after starting 0-4. And this win wasn't easy as it took two times for them to do it.

Dickinson scored a run in the bottom of the first for a quick 1-0 lead and then a lighting issue at the Dickinson softball field caused the game to be delayed until Monday of last week.

The game was moved to Friendswood so the Lady 'Stangs were visitors on their own home field.

Resuming the game in the third inning, Friendswood scored three runs and never looked back.

Starting pitcher Alex Samonski struck out seven to pick up the win.

Sophie Lawson was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs while Angela Fancett was 2-for-4 and drove in one run. Kendall Cross, Morgan Thatcher and Ashley Elliot each had one hit and drove in a run.

Olivia Jackson, Hannah Carpenter and Emily Jackson added to the offense for Friendswood.

Friendswood is now 1-4 in the 24-6A standings.
