Friendswood tracksters compete at District 24-6A meet


FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood boys and girls track teams competed at the 24-6A meet with the boys finishing tie for fourth behind district champion Clear Springs who scored 156 points followed by 2. Clear Falls (98), 3. Dickinson (84), 4. Clear Brook (75), 4. Friendswood 75), 6. Clear Lake (62), 7. Clear Creek (56), and 8. Alvin (14).

The Friendswood girls placed 6th behind district champion Clear Falls (164), 2. Dickinson (154), 3. Clear Lake (74), 4. Clear Springs (64), 5. Alvin (56), 6. Friendswood (45), 7. Clear Creek (36), and 8. Clear Brook (25).

Leading the way for the Friendswood was distance runner Garrett McGregor who was a double-gold winner as he won the 1600 meters (4:32.04) and the 3200 meters (10:17.95) giving the Mustangs 20 team points.

Friendswood got another gold medal winner in pole vaulter Brandon Dela Fuente who soared 14-6 for 10 more points.

High Jumper Michael Hermes won his event with a height of 6-4 for 10 points. Hermes qualified for the state track meet last year as a sophomore.

Andrew Camp placed third in the 3200 meter run in 10:25.41.

Brandon Lantau placed second in the 800 meters in 1:59.88 while teammate Daniel Armstrong took third in 2:00.91.

Jordyn Villanueva placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20-10 1/2

Noah Kester placed sixth in the shot put with a heave of 42-1 1/2.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Aaron Rose, Khalil Lee, Johnathan Bramlet, and Austin Alvarez placed sixth with a time of 47.38.

The 4x200 meter relay foursome of Daniel Armstrong, Cole Robbins, Khalil Lee, and Austin Alvarez) placed sixth with a time of 1:33.41.

The 4x400 meter relay quartet of Daniel Armstrong, Cole Robbins, Ryan Parks, Antonio Cardenas placed fifth in 3:32.69.

Garrett McGregor, Andrew Camp, Michael Hermes, Brandon Dela Fuente, Brandon Lantau and Daniel Armstrong will all be moving on to the 6A Region III Area Meet in Pearland in two weeks.

The Friendswood girls gave their best effort as they had three second place finishes without a district champion in any event.

Olivia Theall finished in second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.65.

Catherine Sims finished second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:23.74 while teammates Faith Brothers took third place in 5:24.76 and Theall finished sixth in 5:37.11.

Sims finished second in the 3200 meter run in 11:57.01 while Brothers finished third in 12:10.31 and Maddie Jordan took fourth place in 12:14.31.

Christi Wood placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 110-10 1/2.

Theall, Wood, Jordan, Sims, and Brothers will advance to the 6A Region III Area Meet in Pearland in two weeks.
