Friendswood golfers headed to state

FRIENDSWOOD — The University of Texas Golf Club will be the site for the Class 4A state golf tournament on April 28-29 in Austin. The Friendswood first team finished second overall at the 4A Region III golf tournament played at the River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy, Texas.

"We played very well under a tremendous amount of pressure," Friendswood head coach John Hext said. "Friendswood has not taken a boys golf team to state in nearly 30 years!"

The five Friendswood team members include: Daniel Bradley, Bryce Dooley, Aron Hetsko, Harrison Slone, and Robert Todd.

Montgomery won the region title with a two-day team score of 633 (314, 319) while Friendswood and Richmond George Ranch tied for second at 637. Friendswood shot a two-day score of 312 and 325 while George Ranch shot two-day scores of 313 and 324.

On an individual basis, Huntsville's Chandler Phillips took individual medal honors with a two-day total of 143 (74, 69).

Friendswood's Robert Todd finished tied for 12th with a two-day total of 158 (76, 78) followed by Bryce Dooley (73, 86=159), Aron Hetsko (81, 78=159), Daniel Bradley (82, 83=165), and Harrison Slone (89, 82=171).

The Friendswood girls team finished sixth at the regional tournament at the same golf course. The girls shot a two-day total of 709 (356, 353). Montgomery, who has dominated the regional and state golf tournaments for almost 20 years won the team title with a two-day total of 623 (316, 307). Humble Kingwood Park placed second with a two-day score of 633 despite two of their golfers finishing first and second in the individual total.

Emma Brackett was the top finisher for Friendswood with a two-day total of 161 (76,85).
