Lady Mustangs fall to George Ranch

FRIENDSWOOD — When teams in the playoffs take the best-of-three route, it is important to get the win in the first game which puts pressure on the losing team to win one of the next two or their season is over.
Unfortunately for Friendswood, George Ranch took advantage of four errors by the Lady Mustangs to cruise to a opening game 6-3 win.
"This was not our best game," Friendswood head coach Kassie Pustjovsky said. "It looked like they were here to play and we weren't. We just didn't come out ready to play."
The Lady Longhorns used the early miscues by the Lady Mustangs to build a 6-0 lead which put Friendswood in a deep hole.
Friendswood finally scored in the bottom of the third when Savannah Hartman walked and then scored on a three-base error by the George Ranch pitcher Alexis Tovar. Olivia Jackson scored on a ground out cutting the gap to 6-2.
A golden opportunity to get back in the game came in the fifth when the Lady Mustangs loaded the bases with no outs after Ashley Elliot score on an error to cut the margin to 6-3. But Tovar got out of the inning when Brittany Woods grounded out, Abby Hayford lined out, and Angela Fancett grounded out to end the threat.
The Lady 'Stangs managed only three hits against Tovar while the Lady Longhorns.
George Ranch 3 - Friendswood 2
In a must win contest, the Friendswood Mustangs found themselves needing a win to stay alive in the playoffs and to extend the best-of-three series to a third and final game.
George Ranch got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first when Kayte Martinez punched a single, stole second, and scored on two wild throws by the Lady Mustangs for a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Longhorns added another run in the bottom of the third when Martinez reached base on a bunt single. Stephanie Money reached base putting runners on first and second. A double steal worked and catcher Emily Rimes brought home Martinez on a sacrifice bunt for a 2-0 advantage.
Friendswood tied up the game at 2-2 when the offense finally came alive in the top of the sixth inning.
Olivia Jackson and Haylee Barnes hit back-to-back singles that set up run scoring singles by Brittany Woods and Courtney Weber.
Alexis Tovar, who pitched five scoreless innings, was replaced by Natasha Cabucio, who ended the Friendswood rally.
Cabucio closed out the game by pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings allowing only three hits while striking out one.
The game remained tied at the end of seven innings which sent the game into an extra frame.
Friendswood was unable to score in the top of the eighth which set up George Ranch to score the winning run in their half of the eighth.
Money led off the inning with a drive to centerfield and moved from first to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rimes. Madison McDonald got the game-winning hit to take the game and the series from Friendswood.
