September 19, 2024
Friendswood head coach Jordan Johnson said, "Definitely not the outcome we wanted but we will move forward and learn fr."
The Mustangs are now 1-2 on the season with the real season beginning on Friday, September 27 when the La Porte Bulldogs invade Henry Winston Stadium in the District 11-5A Div I opener for both teams. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
Unfortunately, Friendswood wasn't able to keep up with Ball High as they dominated the Mustangs for most of the game.
With :37 seconds left in the first quarter, Friendswood QB Jeffrey Randle hit WR Garrett Muecke on a 33-yard strike on fourth-and-5 that set up the Mustangs at the Ball two-yard line. RB Walter Winters scored on a 2-yard plunge to make the score 10-7.
The Tors never trailed as QB Kyden Barker found London Deyon on a 25-yard touchdown pass just 2:33 into the game. Ball High increased the lead to 10-0 when Ethan Marines kicked a 23-yard field goal on the ensuing drive.
Jonah Williams extended the lead for Ball High on a 6-yard touchdown run with 6:06 left in the half before a 30-yard field goal by Marines in the closing seconds before intermission gave the Tors a 20-7 halftime lead.
Two plays after dropping a sure touchdown, Juwaan Woodbury made up for it by pulling in a 48-yard pass from Barker with 9:27 left in the third. The Tors closed out the scoring when Williams took a short pass from Barker and shook off three defenders down the sidelines to complete a 45-yard score with 10:55 remaining.
The Tors defense recorded three sacks and got interceptions from Williams, Robert Brock and Joey Cancilla along with a pair of goal line stands in the fourth quarter to keep their near shutout intact.
Barker completed 21-of-31 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns as the Tors improved to 3-0 with the 33-7 win. The junior has tossed eight touchdown passes in his first three games.
Friendswood has an open date this week and then district begins.
