Friendswood cross country teams win District 24-6A titles

FRIENDSWOOD — Behind winner Brandon Lantau in the boys' division and a 2-3 finish from Faith Brothers and Catherine Sims in the girls' division, Friendswood captured the team titles in the District 24-6A cross country meet at Miramar Park in Seabrook.

The Friendswood girls finished with 36 points to edge second-place Clear Lake, which had 44 points. Alvin's Kaytlynn Welsch won the event in 19:18.66 while Brothers was second in 19:50.44 and Sims was third in 19:57.08. Lady Mustang Olivia Theall was fifth in 20:01.94 and teammates Rhianna Spong and Maddie Jordan were 12th and 14th in 20:50.38 and 21:07.01.

In the boys' division, Lantau won with a 16:28.52 time, easily outdistancing second place William Davey of Clear Falls (16:39.31). Friendswood had a winning team total of 32 points, edging Clear Falls (45 points). Mustang Garrett McGregor was third in 17:01.17, Andrew Camp was fifth in 17:17.80, Brady Sokora was ninth in 17:27.11 and Andrew Cianciola was 13th in 17:32.32.
