Friendswood girls soccer shut out FB Travis 6-0

FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood Lady Mustangs were competing in the 6A playoffs for the first time and they had a new goalkeeper to match.

The Friendswood offense put most of the pressure on the other end of the field, but Alex Frankhouser was ready to guard her ground just in case.

The junior played forward for the Lady Mustangs last year, but decided to concentrate just on basketball this past season. However, with Friendswood's starting goalkeeper injured, head coach Laura Peter corralled Frankhouser earlier in the week to help them in the post-season.

Senior forward Taylor Rue put Friendswood on the scoreboard for a 1-0 lead at the sixth minute.

It took only three minutes for the Lady Mustangs to go up 2-0 thanks to a goal by Selina Vickery.

Maret Moran got in on the scoring with a header for a 3-0 advantage.

Friendswood got one more goal from Vickery for a 4-0 lead at intermission.

The offense continued their dominance in the second half as Erika Clifford put Friendswood up 5-0 and Cami Rue drove the nail in the coffin with a final goal making the score 6-0.

It was a solid showing by the Lady Mustangs in the opening round and the Lady Mustangs will face Deer Park in the next contest.
