Wilson leads Lady Mustangs to a 12-2 pounding over Texas City

Senior Janelle Wilson pitched five innings, allowed four hits, two runs, one walk while fanning seven to lead the Friendswood Lady Mustangs to a 12-2 win over the Texas City Lady Stings. Wilson also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a two-run home run while scoring one run and three RBIs to help her own cause.

After a Bella Halata RBI single gave Friendswood a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, the game was blown wide open in the bottom of the third with eight runs scoring on a two-run double from Charleigh Esparza, an RBI single from Lanie Schaeffer, a bases-loaded RBI walk drawn by Chloe Aldrich, an RBI sac fly from Halata, a run-scoring fielder's choice and a two-run single from Baileigh Burtis.

With a 9-0 lead, Wilson blasted her two-run homer to up the lead to 11-0 in the bottom of the fourth frame.

The Lady Stings scored their two runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run single from Laney Vasquez, but the Lady Mustangs got the walk-off run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI sac fly from Wilson to end the game 12-2 with the 10-run mercy rule after five innings.

Friendswood sits atop the district standings with a 9-1 record and 18-9 overall.
