MANVEL — The Manvel Lady Mavericks faced their district cousin Shadow Creek Lady Sharks and came away with a dominating 65-48 win.
McKinzie Green and Deja Williams led the Lady Mavs to a 17-8 first quarter lead as the pair scored seven and six points respectively in the opening eight minutes.
Manvel continued to build on the lead in the second period 18-6 as Green added seven more points to her first half 14 points for a 35-14 halftime lead.
The Lady Mavs cooled down a little in the third quarter as the Lady Sharks outscored the visitors 14-8 to cut the margin to 43-28 entering the final period.
Both teams increased their effort in the final period with the Lady Mavs edging Shadow Creek 22-20 as there was no quit in either team.
The Lady Sharks were led by freshman Bre'yon White who scored 18 points. Victoria Wright added 12 while Jada Rhodes tossed in 10.
Shadow Creek was 8-of-16 from the free throw line while hitting four 3-pointers.
Manvel was led by Green who had a game-high 20 points while Williams finished with 16.
The Lady Mavs were 16-of-27 from the charity stripe with three treys.
Manvel is now 11-1 in district while Shadow Creek drops to 7-4. Manvel has clinched their place in the post-season with the Lady Sharks still in contention to continue their season in the playoffs.
