Manvel falls to South Houston 56-41

MANVEL — For the second time in three games, Manvel (9-2) has lost a District 22-6A contest that has dropped them into second place in the league standings behind Dawson (11-1).

The Mavs were upset by Pasadena Dobie to hand them their first district loss after going 8-0 in the first round.

But the loss to South Houston would not be considered an upset as the Trojans have a very good basketball team and they have gathered some momentum as the regular season is coming to an end.

At the present time, it appears that Dawson, Manvel, and South Houston have locked down their place in the post-season with Dobie and Pearland battling for the fourth and final spot. The Oilers still have to face Manvel and that game may be the deciding factor if Pearland advances.

Right now, Manvel head coach Greg Devers must find a solution to the present slide downward.

South Houston fell behind the Mavs in the first quarter 12-9, but the Trojans took control of the game in the second period outscoring Manvel 19-8 for a 27-20 lead at intermission.

The Trojans put the squeeze on the Mavs offense in the third quarter with a 14-4 run and a 41-24 advantage entering the final period.

Manvel attempted to rally in the fourth by outscoring the Trojans 17-15, but it was too little, too late as South Houston returned home with a 57-41 victory.

Sterling Fulton led the offense for Manvel with nine points.
