Manvel boys eliminated from the playoffs

MANVEL — The Manvel Mavericks faced the Deer Park Deer in the opening round of the basketball playoffs and came away with a hard-fought 63-61 victory in overtime.
Deer Park opened the first quarter with a 12-6 lead. Both teams found their shooting touch in the second quarter finishing with 16 points each giving the Deer a 28-22 lead at intermission.
Manvel stayed with the Deer by taking the third quarter 15-14 before closing out the game in regulation 16-11 to send the game in overtime tied 53-53.
Linton Acliese had a monster game with 20 points as he led the Mavs to take the overtime period 10-8 while Mohammed Hussein added 13, Ryan Hudson tossed in 11 and Jordan Williams had 10 giving the Mavs the 63-61 victory.
Alief Taylor 70 - Manvel 56
Alief Taylor built a 29-23 halftime lead against Manvel and then began to close out the Mavs in the third quarter 25-13 for a 54-36 advantage entering the final eight minutes.
Manvel tried to comeback taking the final period 20-16, but it was too little, too late as Alief Taylor ended the season for the Mavericks 70-56.
