Dawson falls to Manvel 8-3

MANVEL — Dawson made the playoffs for the first in school history at the Class 4A level. They also won their first playoff game in school history. In fact, they beat two playoff teams to advance to the third round where they lost to Barber's Hill, one of the top teams in the state.

The Lady Eagles moved up to Class 6A after the UIL realignment and they have struggled this season with playing teams like Pearland, Alvin, and Pasadena Dobie.

They entered last week needing to stay in the winning column after posting a 6-6 league mark with four games to play leaving them on the playoff bubble.

Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles dropped both district games to Pearland 9-1) and Manvel (8-3 leaving them in a position where they must win the next three games. One loss will seal their fate for the post-season as they must face Pasadena Dobie (10-2 in district), who is currently in second place, Pasadena, and South Houston.

Dawson lost to Dobie in the first round while beating Pasadena 15-0 and South Houston 14-3.

The Lady Eagles couldn’t get things going offensively against Manvel in seeing its district record fall to 6-7.

Manvel scored three times in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth inning to secure the victory.

Dawson scored a pair in the top of the fifth and one in the seventh inning.

Baylee Malone singled, doubled and drove in all three Dawson runs. Amber Langston had two singles while Rylee Rodriguez smashed a double.

Dawson can mathematically earn the No. 4 playoff seed, but it needs to win out for that to be a possibility.
