Manvel girls place fourth at regionals; boys place 12th

MANVEL — The Manvel girls made their presence felt at the Class 5A Region III track meet in their quest to send athletes to the 5A state track meet to be held at the Michael A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus on May 11-12, 2018.

The Manvel girls finished fourth at regionals with 32 points. The Fort Bend Marshall Lady Buffs won regionals with 75 points followed by Shadow Creek (45) and Port Arthur Memorial (34).

Manvel freshman hurdler punched her ticket to the state track meet as she won the gold medal in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.36 while teammate Aryn Johnson just missed qualifying for her third place finish in 14.89.

The 4x400 relay quartet of Rayah Wynn, Taylor Harvey, Thurneisha Keys, and Ja'Daisia Sims also qualified for the state meet with a time of 3:51.64.

The Manvel boys have won the state championship in 2015 (6A), 2017 (5A) and were state runners-up (5A) in 2016, but unfortunately they won't be defending their title this year. Manvel finished 12th at the regional meet with 20 points while Fort Bend Marshall also won the boys title with 96 points.

Only one Manvel boy qualified for the state track meet and that is CeCori Tolds who placed second at regionals in the long jump with a leap of 22-11.75. Dada Anderson won the event with a leap of 23-02 so Tolds has a very good shot at competing for a state medal.

Manvel ran past second-place Port Arthur Memorial 85 to 63 to win the 2017 crown.
