Manvel finishes second, Shadow Creek third at 5A Region III track meet

MANVEL — The Manvel Mavericks had a strong showing at the 5A Region III track meet with a second place finish behind Fort Bend Marshall who won the region title with 102 points. Manvel scored 78 points while Shadow Creek finished third with 38 points. Cedar Park (34), Montgomery (26), Port Arthur Memorial (24), Georgetown (23), Fort Bend Hightower (22), Crosby (21), and Magnolia (20) rounded out the top 10 of 31 teams.
Manvel has the makings of a team that can challenge for the state title this year.
The following tracksters qualified for state for the Mavericks.
Caleb Malbrough finished first in the triple jump (47-07.50) and Kameryn Alexander finished second in the triple jump (46-11.75).
John Robinson finished second in the 300m hurdles (38.46).
The 4x200 relay team placed second (1:26.36) and the 4x400 relay team placed second (3:18.36) to qualify for state.
Shadow Creek Sharks
Even though the Shadow Creek boys finished a distant third, they will still send a couple of athletes to the state meet.
Leading the way is Ashton O'Conner who won the 100 meters (10.35) and finished in second place in the 200 meters (21.42).
The 4x100 relay team qualified with a time of 40.99.
Friendswood boys scored 17 points to finish 13th at the regional meet.
The Mustangs will be sending two athletes to the state meet.
Sophomore Daniel Armstrong placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 48.74 while senior Mike Hermes placed second in the high jump with a jump of 6-05.
