Manvel comes up short in 7-on-7 state title bid


MANVEL — The Manvel Mavericks had a chance to win the 2015 Division I state 7-on-7 championship, but Austin Westlake was able to pullout the state title 42-34 in double overtime.

Manvel won seven straight games to make the finals, but just came up a little short for the state crown.

Manvel won their pool with three straight victories over Lindale (25-24), Horn (39-28), and Byron Nelson (36-28) to send them to the championship bracket.

The Mavs opened with a 39-32 win over Belton. They knocked off Waxahachie 41-19 before edging The Woodlands 40-38 to advance to the semifinals where they eliminated Cy-Fair 45-20. That sent them to the state championship contest were they came up short to Austin Westlake.
