No. 3 Manvel takes out No. 4 Crosby 35-21

MANVEL — The Manvel Mavericks rebounded from their 45-42 loss to Dickinson in their 2021 season opener by taking out the No. 4 Crosby Cougars 35-21 to get back on the winning path.

The Mavs used a strong ground attack led by running back De'Monte' Seymore who had 225 yards rushing on 15 carries and a pair of touchdowns including scoring runs of 14 and 80 yards.

Crosby scored on their first possession on a 1-yard run to take a 7-0 lead with 9:07 left in the opening quarter.

Manvel was held scoreless in the first frame, but scored twice in the second quarter on a 14-yard run by Seymore and a Kameron Kirkwood 58-yard blocked field goal return with 4:45 left before intermission for a 14-7 halftime lead.

The Mavs took control of the game in the third quarter with three scores to build a 35-14 after Crosby scored to open the third.

Manvel scored on a 20-yard run by Kalen Smith, a 1-yard plunge by Ty Harris, and an 80-yard scoring jaunt by Seymore with :39 seconds left in the third period.

The Cougars scored a touchdown on a 27-yard scoring pass with 7:49 left in the fourth frame to close out the game at 35-21.

Manvel will host the Wisdom Generals on Friday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. for Homecoming at Freedom Field.
