MANVEL — Houston junior quarterback D'Eriq King was named The American Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The honor came after King accounted for all six Houston touchdowns in the Cougars' 45-18 win over Arizona, throwing for a career-best four touchdowns while tying a career high with two rushing touchdowns.
With 10 touchdowns and a successful two-point conversion through two weeks, King leads the nation in average points responsible for with 31.0 points per game.
King completed 17-of-34 passes for 246 yards and spread his touchdown passes around, hitting four different receivers for scores. He added 31 yards on the ground on five rushing attempts.
The former Manvel signal-caller will look to lead Houston to its third straight win this Saturday when Houston travels west to Lubbock, Texas, to face Texas Tech in a game that will be nationally televised on Fox at 3 p.m. CST.
