Manvel smashes Pasadena 56-0

MANVEL — Manvel entered the District 22-6A contest against the Pasadena Eagles knowing they were an overwhelming favorite to hand the Eagles their third straight district loss this season and they certainly accomplished that and more.

Pasadena hasn't scored a touchdown against a league opponent so far this season losing to Pasadena Memorial (62-0), Pearland (64-0), and Manvel 56-0.

Teams have run roughshod over them and that certainly continued when the Mavs took care of business.

Manvel opened up the lopsided victory with a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown by Ryan Hudson with 7:00 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead after the PAT was good by Randy Bermea.

The Mavs scored again in the first when QB D'Eriq King hit Keylon Stokes on a 9-yard scoring strike with 1:18 remaining for a 14-0 advantage.

The scoring continued for Manvel in the second period when Reggie Hemphill snagged a 29-yard touchdown pass from King to increase the lead to 21-0 with 10:44 left.

Manvel scored on the final play of the first half when Jalen Preston got behind the Pasadena defense to haul in a 70-yard scoring pass from QB Kyle Trask for a 28-0 lead at intermission.

It was more of the same in the second half as Manvel scored three times in the third when Derrick Tucker returned the second half kickoff for a 65-yard touchdown and D'Vaughn Pennamon scored twice on the ground on runs of 41 and 4-yards making the score 49-0.

The Mavs added one more score with 5:42 left in the fourth quarter when Brandon McCarty grabbed a 14-yard touchdown pass from QB Kason Martin. Bermea added his eighth PAT of the game to post the 56-0 final score.

Manvel didn't need to rack up much yardage to get the win as they got a total of 317 yards including 111 on the ground.

King was 5-for-11 passing for 98 yards and two TDs. Trask was 4-of-5 for 80 yards and one score.

Pennamon led all rushers with only three carries for 58 yards and two scores.

Stokes had three catches for 26 yards and one TD. Hemphill had two grabs for 72 yards and one score. Preston had one catch for 70 yards and one TD. McCarty had one reception for 14 yards and a TD.
