Manvel throttles Milby 58-0

MANVEL — The Manvel Mavericks improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in district after blitzing Milby 58-0. The Mavs will no doubt finish out the regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark while capturing the District 11-5A-II title.

Manvel is just trying to skate through the rest of their weak district and somehow get ready to make a deep run in the post-season when the competition will get much better.

It didn't take long for Manvel to set the tone for this game as Malachi McLean returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a quick 7-0 lead with 11:45 left in the opening period.

Manvel would score again 30 seconds later on an 11-yard touchdown run by Donavan Eaglin making the score 14-0 which would stand for the rest of the first quarter.

The Mavs added 24 more points in the second period starting with a 39-yard field goal by Luis Moreno; two more touchdowns by Eaglin on 4 and 2-yard runs; and an 18-yard scamper by Jordan Vaughn giving Manvel a 38-0 halftime lead.

Manvel scored once in the third quarter on a 25-yard run by Isaih Jackson and then added two more scores in the final frame on a 4-yard run by Vaughn and a 1-yard plunge by Caleb Jordan to post the 58-0 final score.

Quarterback Tucker Yarbrough was 11-of-19 passing for 96 yards.

Eaglin had 10 carries for 75 yards and three scores.

McLean had two catches for 21 yards while De'Monte Seymore had three grabs for 16 yards. Zion Johnkins had two catches for 18 yards.

Manvel will travel to face Sterling on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m.
