North Shore rushes past Manvel 49-14

MANVEL — The North Shore Mustangs are the two-time defending Class 6A Div. I state champions and they showed why against the Manvel Mavericks with a 49-14 win.

The Mustangs dominated on both sides of the ball as they had 278 yards rushing and 187 yards passing for a total offense of 465 yards while holding Manvel to 372 total yards and two scores.

Manvel was plagued with four fumbles, losing one and also tossing an interception. The Mavs also had nine penalties.

North Shore took the lead in the opening frame with two touchdowns for a 14-0 lead.

Brannon Davis scored on a 36-yard run while QB Dematrius Davis scored on a 26 yard dash.

Manvel finally got on the board with 5:31 left in the second period on a 16-yard pass from QB Gabriel Larry to cut the lead to 14-7.

But the Mustangs scored two more times before intermission when Shadrach Banks scored on a 54-yard jaunt and Charles King scored on a 4-yard pass from Davis to build a 28-7 advantage with 14 seconds left in the opening half.

However, the Mavs scored following the ensuing kickoff with no time on the clock as Larry hit the home run pass covering 51-yards to WR Isaiah King to cut the margin to 28-14.

The second half belonged to North Shore as the Mustangs scored 21 unanswered points to claim the 49-21 non-district win.

Larry was 7-of-16 passing for 145 yards with two TDs and one interception to go with 58 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Ty Harris had 94 yards rushing on nine carries.

Jalen Walthall had two catches for 58 yards while Harris had one grab for 51 yards and a TD.
