Manvel whollops Santa Fe 54-21


MANVEL — As they have done with the other District 23-5A opponents, the Manvel Mavericks took care of the Santa Fe Indians 54-21 to remain undefeated on the season and in district play.

Manvel has only one remaining district contest before the playoffs begin when they entertain the Galena Park Yellowjackets (2-7, 0-6) on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Alvin Memorial Stadium.

The Mavs should have no problem in completing the 2016 football campaign at 10-0 before entering the post-season with the goal of a state championship.

It was business as usual when the Mavs traveled to the Indian reservation getting very little resistance from the Indians.

Manvel racked up 482 total yards while holding Santa Fe to 277 total yards.

The Mavs were led by QB Kason Martin who was 18-of-29 passing for 250 yards and three touchdowns.

Keylon Stokes scored on two scoring passes from Martin covering 20 and 13-yards while also scoring on a 20-yard scamper.

Deneric Prince also scored two times on a 1 and 13-yard run.

Caleb Jolivette thrilled the Manvel fans with a sensational 89-yard scoring jaunt.

J.J. Joseph added a 70-yard interception for a touchdown and Jalen Preston scored on a 23-yard pass reception from Martin.

The Mavs scored two times in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and then added two more scores in the second period.

Santa Fe scored twice in the second quarter when Bryce Montemayor scored on a 5-yard run and QB Nathan Kruger threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Josh Blankenship to cut the lead to 28-14 at intermission.

The Indians scored once in the final period after the Mavericks added 26 more points in the second half making the final score 54-21. vJolivette had two carries for 91 yards and one TD. Sam Smith had four totes for 37 yards. Prince had five carries for 33 yards and one score.

Stokes had five catches for 62 yards and two TDs. Arik Bennett had four grabs for 74 yards.
