Mavericks thump Pasadena Memorial 70-0

MANVEL — Manvel continued to totally dominate their District 22-6A opponents by thrashing the Pasadena Memorial Mavericks 70-0.

It took Manvel most of the first quarter to get untracked but once they did, the score snowballed.

QB Deriq King scored the only touchdown in the first quarter with a 2-yard keeper and a 7-0 lead with :47 seconds left.

However, the second and third quarters were all Manvel as they scored 28 points in the second and 35 points in the third.

Manvel scored four times in less than seven minutes in the second period as D'Vaughn Pennamon raced 79-yards for one score. King added a 13-yard touchdown run.

And then King tossed two scoring passes to Reggie Hemphill covering 25-yards and Sean Dykes covering 13-yards at the close of the half and a 35-0 lead at intermission.

It was more of the same as Manvel had a 35 point scoring parade in the third quarter.

Qyalan Clay scored two times covering 5 and 1-yards. Leonard Owens scored on a 19-yard run. Collin Scott returned and interception 28-yards for another TD. Hasaun Glasgow scored on a 15-yard fumble recovery to post the 70-0 final score.

Manvel had 608 total yards while Memorial could manage only seven first downs and 139 total yards.

King was 13-of-24 for 183 yards and two TDs and had 69 yards rushing on eight carries and two more scores.

Pennamon had four totes for 136 yards and one score. Clay had seven carries for 35 yards and two TDs.

Dykes had three catches for 48 yards and one score while Hemphill had one grab for 25 yards and one TD.

The stage is now set a Manvel (9-0, 7-0) will face Pearland (9-0, 7-0) at The Rig on Friday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. in a game that will determine the District 22-6A championship.

Both teams have clinched their place in the playoffs. Manvel is the No. 1 seed in Class 6A Region III Div. II and Pearland is the No. 1 seed in Div. I. Neither will see one another again once the post-season begins.
