Manvel runs past Lamar Consolidated 62-34

MANVEL — Manvel continued their undefeated season with a lopsided 62-34 win over Lamar Consolidated in the Class 5A Region III Div. II area round.

The Mavs (12-0) now advance to the 5A regional semifinals to face Barbers Hill (11-1) on Friday, November 29 at 12:00 noon at NRG Stadium. Barbers Hill beat Whitehouse 47-24.

Manvel jumped out to a 27-7 first quarter lead as Donovan Eaglin had a big night on offense in leading the Mavs to the playoff win.

Eaglin had a 41-yard scoring run in the opening frame with 1:16 left in the first quarter that gave the Mavs the 27-7 lead.

Senior quarterback Tucker Yarbrough got things started with a 33-yard scoring pass to Jalen Paxton for a 7-0 lead on the opening drive in the first quarter.

Junior running back Jordon Vaughn scored on a 5-yard scamper and then the Manvel defense took advantage of a Lamar turnover as defensive back Xavier Carter picked up a fumble and sprinted 16-yards for another score.

Lamar challenged Manvel in the second quarter by outscoring the Mavs 17-7 as Vaughn scored the only touchdown for Manvel on a 4-yard run leaving the Mavs in front 34-24 at intermission.

But Manvel pulled away in the second half 28-10 to get the 62-34 playoff win.

Eaglin and Jordan Vaughn both scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half as Eaglin scored on a 44-yard run in the third period and added a 25-yarder in the fourth quarter while Vaughn scored both of his in the final period on runs of 54 and 65-yards.

Eaglin had 25 carries for 258 yards and three touchdowns while Vaughn had 20 totes for 203 yards and four scores.

Yarbrough was 12-of-16 passing for 164 yards and one TD.

Paxton had three catches for 69 yards and one score while Jalen Walthall had one grab for 40 yards. Malachi McLean had five catches for 28 yards.
