Manvel rushes past Terry 38-20

MANVEL — Manvel's Lemarkus Owens returned the opening kickoff 56 yards to the Terry 18 yard line and three plays later, De'Monte Seymore scored on a 9-yard run through the right side of his offensive line to give the Mavericks an early 7-0 lead with 10:40 left in the first quarter.

It was all down hill for Manvel as they went on to post a 28-0 lead at halftime.

The Mavs scored their second touchdown when senior QB Gabriel Larry hit senior WR Zion Johnkins on an 29-yard scoring strike for a 14-0 Manvel lead with 7:12 left in the first period.

The big play of the 3-play, 91-yard drive was a pass from Larry to senior WR Davyon Henderson covering 53 yards.

Manvel's next score came on a 1-yard plunge by senior RB Jordon Vaughn with 6:51 left in the second quarter making the score 21-0.

The final score of the first half for Manvel came on a 10-yard pass from Larry to junior WR Kelby Williams with just 42 seconds left before intermission making the score 28-0.

The Mavericks lost a scoring opportunity earlier in the second quarter when Vaughn broke free on a 66-yard jaunt, but fumbled the ball at the Terry five-yard line which was recovered by the Rangers.

Terry scored first in the second half on a 29-yard run by senior QB Kellen Stewart to cut the lead to 28-6 after the two-point conversion was no good with 9:28 left in the period.

Manvel got a 30-yard field goal from Antonio Rodriguez with 6:35 left in the third quarter making the score 31-6.

Terry scored twice in the fourth quarter while Manvel found the end zone once on a 32-yard run by Owens to make the final score 38-20.

Larry was 4-for-9 passing for 82 yards and one score while Kyler Williams was 3-for-7 for 29 yards and one TD.

Ty Harris was the leading rusher for the Mavs with 21 carries for 134 yards while Vaughn had 12 carries for 103 yards and one score. Seymore had seven totes for 95 yards and one touchdown and Owens had three carries for 45 yards and one TD.

Henderson caught two passes for 64 yards and Johnkins had two grabs for 32 yards and one score.

Manvel will open up the Class 5A Region III Div. I playoffs on Friday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Freedom Field against Beaumont United Timberwolves.
