Manvel thrashes Beaumont United 63-0 to advance

MANVEL — The Beaumont United Timberwolves were no match for the Manvel Mavericks in the opening round of the Class 5A Region III Div. I playoffs.

The game was basically over in the first half as the Mavs jumped out to a 35-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.

The win vaults the Mavs to the Class 5A Region III Div. I area round to face the Dripping Springs Tigers on Friday, December 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Bryan at the Merrill Green Stadium.

It took a little while for the Mavs to get on track, but once they did, it was all over.

Manvel only scored once in the first quarter on a 29-yard pass from senior QB Gabriel Larry to senior WR Jalen Walthall for a 7-0 lead.

The second opened up the game as the Mavs scored four more times as Larry found Walthall on a second scoring toss covering 10-yards for a 14-0 lead.

Larry extended the lead to 21-0 when he scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper.

Larry tossed his third scoring pass when he hooked up with Kyler Williams on a 54-yard scoring strike for a 28-0 advantage.

The Maverick defense got in on the scoring action before intermission when Xavier Potts intercepted a short pass for a 50-yard touchdown and a 35-0 lead at halftime.

Manvel added two more scores in the third quarter on a Ty Harris 14-yard run and a 39-yard touchdown pass from Williams for a 49-0 lead.

The fourth quarter featured a 32-yard touchdown run by Lemarkus Owens and a 10-yard score to close out the 63-0 lopsided win.
