Lady Oilers honored by Texas Sports Writers

PEARLAND — The Texas Sports Writers Association released their All-State selections for the 2014 volleyball season and three Pearland Lady Oilers were honored for their outstanding season.

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Botkin was named to the Class 6A All-State first-team by the state writers.

Botkin, who was named District 22-6A MVP, registered 633 kills, 446 digs, 49 aces, and 45 blocks in 2014. She has verbally committed to the University of Southern California Lady Trojans.

Senior outside hitter Cassidy Nussman was named to the All-State second team. Nussman was named as the District 22-6A "Offensive Player of the Year." She also was selected to the All-Academic All-District squad. The 6-4 Nussman had 406 kills and 95 blocks this past season. She was recently named to the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association East All-Star squad which will play on Saturday, January 31 at Pearland High School against other selected senior All-Stars from the greater Houston area.

Junior Amanda Chapa was named to the All-State honorable mention team. Chapa earned honors as an All-District first-team and All-Academic performer. The 5-3 Libero was named to two All-Tournament Teams (Adidas Texas Volleyball Invitational and was named as the Outstanding Defensive Player at the Spring Branch ISD Tournament.

Chapa is a member of the Prep Volleyball Class of 2015 Top 100. She had 690 digs and 40 aces for the 2014 season. She will certainly be a team leader in 2015. Chapa has verbally committed to Abilene Christian University.
