Realignment by the UIL announced for area high schools
February 3, 2026
No one is quite sure what the University Interscholastic League (UIL) is going to do with the realignment before being announced. As one local coach remarked, "It is what it is!"
The new districts were announced on Monday, February 2 for all the schools across the state of Texas.
Pearland and Dawson are now in District 19-6A with, Alvin, Alvin Shadow Creek, Brazoswood, Manvel, Pasadena Dobie, Pasadena Memorial, and Pasadena Rayburn.
That gives Pearland and Dawson a nine-team district and will allow them to have two non-district games before district competition begins.
"I wasn’t surprised we are with Alvin and Pasadena again, I did however, expect us to need an extra non-district game with South Houston going down to 5A," said Pearland head coach B.J. Gotte. "So, I was needless to say surprised about Brazoswood being put in SoHo’s place."
"I really had no idea what was going to happen this year," said Dawson head coach Mike Allison. "There were a few schools that moved up to 6A which shifted a few of the districts.
"I didn’t see a prediction of our district that matched what happened but understand that there are a lot of factors that go into the realignment. We can’t control the things like this; we just need to be prepared to do our best each week."
Each school will play two non-district games before league action begins.
"Our non-district opponents are Clear Falls to open the 2026 season and Katy Paetow in Week Two." said coach Gotte.
For the last eight years, the Oilers have had Spring Branch Memorial on the non-district schedule and except for 2017, that series has dated back to 2009 so Pearland will have a couple of new teams in 2026.
"Our non-district games will be with Deer Park in Week One and Ft. Bend Elkins in Week Two for Dawson," said coach Allison.
As far as any overall thoughts concerning the realignment, coach Gotte said, "There were some interesting decisions made regarding schools in our area. There were some Austin schools brought into 6A Region III.
"Barbers Hill was added to the Clear Creek district instead of Crosby or Channelview while Spring Branch Memorial, Stratford, and Alief were included with HISD.
"And Lamar Consolidated was pushed north with Cy-Fair and Waller."
Coach Allison shared some additional thoughts when he said, "I like our district because we are going to be tested each week. Every team is well coached and has talented players, so we will need to be at our best each game.
"I am excited to see what our kids will be able to do."
