Jaden Bellina leads Lady Oilers to second place at regionals

PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers finished second at the 6A Region 6 swim meet. Kingwood won the region crown with 443 points while Pearland finished in second place with 256 points.

Jaden Bellina, who was named 6A Region 6 Girls Athlete of the Meet, will lead a team of six girls and one boy from Pearland to the state swim meet that will be held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center on the University of Texas in Austin campus on February 17-18.

The two-time defending state champion Bellina will be going for her third straight state title in the 200 IM. She has the top time entering the state meet at 2:01.38. She will also be competing in the 100-yard butterfly where she finished first at regionals in 54.72.

The Lady Oilers 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Jaden Bellina, Catherine Dominick, Morse, and Hannah Bellina won gold at regionals with a time of 3:31.46 over Kingwood who came in second at 3:31.93.

Pearland girls also qualified in the 200-yard Medley Relay as the foursome of Mckenzie Eaker, Madyson Morse, Jaden Bellina, and Hannah Bellina posted a second-place time of 1:45.92 with Kingwood barely winning the event in 1:45.74.

Morse will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.20) after she finished fourth at regionals. After her time was posted across the state, she had one of the top 16 times giving her a call up for the state meet.

Gillian Pratt also qualified for state after she won the diving event with 374.85 points.

Pearland will have only one boy who qualified for state as Robert Pearce got a call up after finishing fourth at regionals with a time of 51.09.
