Oilers have strong showing in Clear Creek baseball tourney

PEARLAND — The Pearland diamondmen are off to a strong start for the 2016 baseball season. The Oilers are 10-2 on the season and have an eight-game winning streak while posting a 2-0 mark in District 22-6A with wins over Dobie (6-1) and Pasadena (11-0).

The Oilers played in the Clear Creek ISD tourney and came away with impressive wins over Clear Lake (12-9), Friendswood (10-0), Second Baptist (4-0), Clear Brook (12-1), and Atascocita (14-4).

Against Second Baptist, who is coached by former Astros great Lance Berkman, Pearland pitcher Jaron Roblyer kept Second Baptist off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the bump. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out eight.

Parker DeLeon was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI for Pearland.

The Oilers took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second and scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to post the final 4-0 score.

Jake Orlando was 1-for-2 with two runs scored while Craig Mattes was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Cody Williams added a double as the Oilers had seven hits.

Pearland blew out the rest of the opposition in the tournament setting up the rest of their district schedule and hopefully a deep run in the playoffs for this season.

The Oilers will travel to face Dawson on Friday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. and then will host Alvin on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m.
