Lady Oilers romp past Lady Eagles in district contest

PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers improved to 2-0 in district after an 11-5 win over cross-town cousin Dawson in a league showdown.

The Lady O's wasted little time staking their claim to the lead as they scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 6-0 advantage.

Big bats for the Lady Oilers were led by Kayla Gonzalez, Bella Rodriguez, and Mya Martinez, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Pearland added two more runs in the bottom half of the second inning for an 8-0 lead, but Dawson cut the margin to 8-4 in the third, fourth, and fifth innings with runs in those frames, but the Lady Oilers increased the lead to 11-4 when Kristyn Whitlock had a three-run dinger in the fifth inning.

The Lady Eagles got one more run in the top of the sixth as Pearland closed out the game 11-5.

Hailey Foster was the winning pitcher for Pearland as she tossed seven innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out two.

Pearland totaled 12 hits in the game. Alayna Calvillo, Maddison Guillen, Rylie Martin, and Gonzalez each racked up multiple hits for the Lady Oilers. Gonzalez, Martin, Guillen, and Calvillo each collected two hits in the game.
