Lady Oilers rout Manvel 14-0 to remain undefeated


PEARLAND — Head coach Laneigh Clark saw her girls score a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and then add seven more in the second to build an early lopsided 9-0 lead over the hapless Manvel Lady Mavericks.

But the Lady O's were finished as they added five more in bottom of the fourth to make the scored 14-0.

Because of the 10-run mercy rule in place, the game ended after five innings to keep the Lady Oilers undefeated in District 22-6A action with a spotless 8-0 record to end the first round of league play.

An RBI double by Ashlynn Walls in the first inning and an RBI single by Lindsey Stewart, an RBI double by Walls, a two-run home run by Sydney Gutierrez, a solo home run by Kaylee Hoppens, and a two-run single by Janna Roberts during the second inning helped Pearland build the early 9-0 advantage.

Pearland used the long ball to blow out the Lady Mavs as Gutierrez, Hoppens, and Megan Hiers all blasted ball over the fence.

Stewart was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Walls was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Gutierrez was 1-for-1 with one run scored and two RBIs. Hoppens was 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI. Makalah Norman was 1-for-1 with one run scored. Roberts was 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI.

Alyssa Denham (9-2) picked up another win after three innings of work in the pitching circle. She allowed only one hit while striking out eight and issuing no walks. Adrianna Chavarria and Alyssa Fort pitched one inning each in relief.

The Lady Oilers will host Pasadena on Friday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. to begin the second round of district. They will travel to face South Houston on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m.
