Pearland diamondmen split district games with Dobie 8-4, 2-6

Pearland entered their District 22-6A contest with the Dobie Longhorns with an eight-game winning streak and extended that streak to nine games with an 8-4 win over the Horns.

But Dobie snapped the streak with a 6-2 league win to hand the Oilers their first district loss (9-1) while Dobie moved into second place in the district standings (6-2) behind the Oilers.

Pearland, who is now 18-8-1 on the season, was coming off two district wins over cross-town cousin Dawson 11-5 and 15-6 to take command of the district lead at 8-0.

In Game One against Dobie, the Oilers built an 8-1 lead over the course of six innings until Dobie scored three in the top of the seventh before Pearland put the fire out to get the 8-4 victory.

The big innings for Pearland were in the fifth and sixth frames when the Oilers scored three times in each frame.

Leading hitters for the Oilers included Jordan Hernandez (1-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Braxton Jones (2-for-4, 1 run, 3 RBIs, 2 doubles), Brady Brewer (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 2B), Reid Landis (1-for-3, 1 RBI), Hayden Mireles (1-for-2, 2 runs), and Ashton Arredondo (2-for-3, 1run).

Pearland pitcher Oscar Medina got the win for the Oilers as he surrendered only two hits while allowing one run over innings including three strikeouts and three walks. Relief pitcher Adrian Estrada took over for Medina to close out the Longhorns with two strikeouts and no walks.

Pearland 2 - Dobie 6

In the second game against Dobie, the Pearland Oilers could manage on two runs, one in the third inning and one in the fifth frame while the Longhorns scored in the first, added a pair in the fourth, and three in the fifth to hand the Oilers their first district loss this season.

Pearland's Matteo Gross drove in both runs for the Oilers as he was 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate.

Brady Brewer suffered the loss on the mound as he surrendered six runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one.
