PEARLAND — The No. 3 area-ranked Pearland Lady Oilers are still perfect in District 22-5A with a 6-0 mark after knocking off South Houston (9-0) and Deer Park (6-2) last week.
The defending league and Class 5A Region III champions are riding the arms of junior pitchers Brooke DeBois (12-1) and Jessica Bowden (7-1-1). Pearland is currently 20-5-1 overall.
The contest against South Houston was over early as the Lady O's scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the second, and then the flood-gates opened with six runs in the bottom of the third making the score 9-0. Head coach Laneigh Clark cleared her bench to get in on the league win.
Pearland scored nine runs on 13 hits while DuBois got the win including four strikeouts.
Megan Coronado was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Jaclyn Becktle was 2-for-2 with a walk, stolen base, and two RBIs. Chelsea Bennett had a single that drove in two runs. Haley Beam had an RBI double off the wall that fell just a little short of a home run.
Pearland 6 - Deer Park 2
Jessica Bowden had three strikeouts against Deer Park and allowed no earned runs as the Lady O's knocked off Deer Park 6-2.
Pearland broke the game open in the top of the third inning with four runs that was sparked by the top four hitters with two outs. Megan Coronado scored on a Deer Park error. Brooke DuBois smashed a two-out, two-run single to centerfield. Jaclyn Bechtle was 3-for-3 that included a double and an RBI. Haley Beam was 1-for-2 with single that plated two runs.
The win gives Bowden a 7-1-1 pitching mark.
The Lady Oilers hosted Dobie on Tuesday (late) and then will face Pasadena at home on Thursday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. Pearland will go to Sam Rayburn on Tuesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m.
