PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers completed the first round of District 22-5A action with a perfect 7-0 mark with a 1-0 win over Dobie and then began the second round with a solid 8-1 victory over Pasadena.
Head coach Laneigh Clark knew that her team would be tested by traditionally-rich Dobie and she was right.
"Dobie always plays us tough," Clark said. "They are always considered one of the top teams we play in our district."
Pearland (18-4, 8-0) leads the league while Deer Park and Dobie are tied for second at 5-2. Pasadena Memorial and La Porte are tied for third which involves five teams vying for the four spots in the playoff race. Pasadena, South Houston, and Sam Rayburn will only play the role of the spoiler regarding the post-season.
Pearland pitcher Jessica Bowden picked up the win on the mound shutting out Dobie with seven strikeouts while allowing only three hits against the Lady Longhorns.
The Lady Oilers scored the only run they would need to pick up the win when Lauren Langner scored on a two-out error.
Megan Coronado was 2-for-3 at the plate while Lauren Langner was 1-for-1 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Jaclyn Bechtle added a single as Pearland was held to only four hits.
