Pearland gets wins over Pasadena and South Houston

PEARLAND — The Pearland Oilers got back on the winning track after dropping a 5-4 decision to Pasadena Dobie by blanking Pasadena 5-0 and South Houston 5-2 to stay atop the district standings.

Brady Basso took the mound against Pasadena and was in total command as he pitched six innings, allowed only one hit, walked two, and whiffed 12 for the win. Jarrod Tacco pitched the seventh frame, allowed no runs or hits while striking out one for the save.

The Oilers scored two runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the second, and a pair in the third for the 5-0 victory.

Bailey Cummings was 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored. Cody Williams was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Jacob Whitehead was 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI. Caleb Maly was 1-for-1 with one run scored. Jake Orlando and Parker DeLeon both had one RBI.

Pearland 5 - South Houston 2

Bailey Cummings went 2-for-3 at the plate that included a double in the second inning and a single in the fourth two runs scored and two RBIs in leading the Oilers to a 5-2 win over South Houston.

Pearland scored three runs in the top of the second for a 3-0 lead, but the Trojans closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the third making the score 3-2.

The Oilers added runs in the fourth when Cummings scored on an RBI single by DeLeon and seventh innings to give them the 5-2 cushion.

Izayah Quezada got the win for Pearland on the hill. He allowed two runs over four innings. Quezada struck out one, walked one and gave up five hits. Jaron Roblyer stepped in relief and allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his three innings of work.

Williams was 3-for-4 with a run scored. DeLeon was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Craig Mattes was 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
