Lady Oilers remain tied for league lead
April 11, 2017
PEARLAND — When Pearland has faced the three schools at Alief ISD, the question is not whether they are going to win or not. The issue is by how much.
The Lady Oilers have now played Elsik, Taylor, and Hastings two times each and have beaten them by the combined score of 91-0. And no game between these three teams have gone past three innings due to the 15-run rule.
Pearland is tied with Brazoswood for first place at 8-1 and Pearland beat George Ranch and the Lady Bucs in the first round while dropping their only league contest to Dawson 7-1 in an error-filled game for the Lady O's.
Since that time, Pearland has a five-game district win streak and they are hoping to close out the regular season with wins over Dawson, George Ranch, and Brazoswood to claim the District 23-6A title. The Lady Oilers have already punched their ticket for the playoffs.
Pearland has been playing more consistently in recent weeks thanks to the players doing some self-evaluations especially after the win over Brazoswood.
"That was a turnaround game for us," Pearland head coach Laneigh Clark said. "The girls saw the importance and put it all together. I thought our pitching, offense, and defense was great.
"Winning the George Ranch game 6-0 at home pretty convincingly was big, and then we went to Brazoswood and played nine innings and 4 1/2 hours. But the kids fought and fought and fought. In the end, we came out ahead."
Those two wins placed the Lady O's on a five-game winning streak with the end of the regular season just ahead.
Last week, Pearland throttled Taylor 15-0 and Hastings 16-0.
Against Taylor, the Lady O's banged out 16 while Taylor got no hits and no runs in the 15-0 no-hitter.
Adrianna Chavarria pitched two frames while Natalie Trujillo pitched one inning with both pitchers combining for the no-hitter.
Lauren Shepherd was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Hailey Rocha was 2-for-2 with an RBIs. There were 11 other players who got a base hit.
Pearland 16 - Hastings 0
In another rout, the Pearland Lady Oilers racked up 16 runs in three innings to complete the sweep of all three Alief softball teams.
Three different pitchers took turns against the Lady Bears. Adrianna Chavarria started the game, allowed no runs, no hits, and struck out all three batters.
Alyssa Fort pitched the second inning and allowed no runs, no hits while striking out three. Natalie Trujillo pitched one frame and allowed one hit.
Pearland finished with seven hits in the three innings while Hastings issued nine walks.
