Lady Oilers sweep Brazoswood for No. 1 playoff seed


PEARLAND — The Pearland Lady Oilers swept the Brazoswood Lady Bucs in district to finish with a 10-2 league mark to get the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Class 6A Region III post-season. Lady Oilers are now District 23-6A Co-Champions and headed into a playoff matchup with Clear Creek.

The only two losses Pearland suffered in district action was against cross-town cousin Dawson who finished with an 8-4 district mark and the No. 4 playoff seed while joining Brazoswood (No. 2) and George Ranch (No. 3) from 23-6A.

Dawson will take on Alvin, George Ranch will battle Dickinson and Brazoswood will meet Friendswood in bi-district matchups.

Pearland closed out district action with a 4-2 win over Brazoswood.

The Lady Oilers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second when Ashlin Moreno reached base on an error. Lauren Ochoa ground out moving Moreno to second and then Avery Ratcliff stroked a single to centerfield to plate Moreno for a 1-0 lead.

Brazoswood tied up the game in the third making the score 1-1.

Pearland broke the tie with a run in the fifth when Kaylee Buck hit a one-out single to left and scored on a Brazoswood error for a 2-1 lead.

The Lady O's added two more runs in the sixth to make the score 4-2.

Brazoswood scored one run in the top of the seventh, but Pearland pitcher Adrianna Chavarria got a third out to left field to preserve the Pearland lead for the win.

Chavarria picked up the win for Pearland, throwing a complete game while striking out five.

The Lady Oilers got only three hits in the game by Buck who was 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI. Ochoa was 1-for-3 and Ratcliff was 1-for-3.
