Pearland takes out Dawson 9-2; falls to Shadow Creek


PEARLAND — Pearland faced cross-town cousin Dawson in a District 23-6A showdown and came away with a convincing 9-2 win to secure their place in the playoffs.

The Oilers scored a pair of runs in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead, but the Eagles tied up the game with two runs in the bottom of the third making the score 2-2.

Pearland would score seven runs in the final four frames to post the 9-2 league win.

Caden Ferraro was the winning pitcher for Pearland as he allowed three hits and no runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.

Dalton Hitt took the loss for Dawson as he lasted three innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out two and walking one.

Pearland banged out 14 hits as Anthony Avalos (3-for-3, 3 runs), Logan Scott (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Ferraro (2-for-4) and Conner DeLeon (2-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI) each managed multiple hits for the Oilers. Brett Smajstrla was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Carter Allen and Robert Patrick both had doubles in the game.

Cole Sebok went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Dawson offense.

Pearland is now 21-6-1 overall and Dawson is 17-9-1 on the season. The Oilers have punched their ticket to the post-season.

Shadow Creek 4 - Pearland 3

The Oilers hosted Shadow Creek and built a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning. Pearland needed only three outs to win the critical district contest, but the Sharks countered with three runs for a 4-3 lead.

Shadow Creek was able to get the three outs they needed in the final at-bats for the Oilers to pull out the win.

Robert Patrick started the game for Pearland and lasted six innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out eight

Sebastian Soliz started the game for Shadow Creek. Soliz went five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out three.

Garrett Coiner took the loss for the Oilers after he surrendered one run on no hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one.
