PEARLAND — Pearland faced the Clear Lake Lady Falcons in the opening round of the Class 6A Region III bi-district playoffs and came away with a 10-3 and a 4-3 sweep in the best-of-three series.

The Lady Oilers advance to the area round where they will face the Summer Creek Lady Bulldogs in a best-of-three series that begins on Friday, May 6 at Summer Creek at 7:00 p.m. Game 2 is schedule for Saturday, May 7 at Pearland HS at 5 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will follow 30 minutes after Game 2 ends.

Pearland 10 - Clear Lake 3

Clear Lake scored the first run in the top of the first inning, but Pearland answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first frame for a 2-1 lead.

The Lady Oilers added another run in the bottom of the third making the score 3-1.

But the fourth frame proved to be the back-breaker for Clear Lake as the Lady Oilers broke the game open with five runs and an 8-1 advantage.

Players that sparked the big inning were Hailey Golden, Alayna Calvillo, Raenna Liscano, and Kristyn Whitlock who all drove in runs.

Pearland increased the lead to 10-1 with a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth.

Clear Lake continued to battle with two runs in the seventh, but it was too little too late as the Lady Oilers prevailed 10-3.

Leading hitters for Pearland included Golden (3-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Calvillo (1-for-3, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Liscano (1-for-4, 1 run, 3 RBIs), Whitlock (4-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs, 2 doubles), Lydia Njus (1-for-3, 1 run, double), and Trinity Perry (1-for-2, 1 RBI).

Abigail Guttierrez was the winning pitcher for the Lady Oilers as she pitched 2.1 innings and gave up no runs, no hits, and struck out four. Flores pitched 3.1 frames and gave up two hits, one run, and struck out four while Carpenter tossed 1.1 innings and allowed two runs and two hits.

Pearland 4 - Clear Lake 3

Pearland faced Clear Lake in the second game of the best-of-three series with the Lady Oilers leading the series 1-0.

This game was much closer as Pearland scored a run late in the game to pull out the 4-3 win and the series to advance to the Class 6A Region III area round to face the Summer Creek Lady Bulldogs.

Pearland took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and scored two more in the third for a 3-0 advantage, but Clear Lake cut into the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the third making the score 3-1.

The Lady Falcons tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth with a run making the score 3-3.

The Lady O's scored the winning run in the top of the sixth when Kelsey Martin reached base on an error by the third baseman. After Martin advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lydia Njus, Trinity Perry singled to move Martin to third. Hailey Golden hit a one-out RBI single to make the score 4-3 that stood as the final score.

Abigail Gutierrez picked up the win after allowing nine hits, two runs, four walks, and three strikeouts.
