Area tracksters shine at UIL state track meet

UIL State - Austin — There were several track athletes who qualified to compete at the state Class 6A and Class 5A level.

Manvel, Shadow Creek, and Friendswood all had boys and girls compete at the 5A level while Pearland Dawson had qualifiers at the 6A level.

The Manvel boys finished third in the state with 43 points while Shadow Creek boys finished tied for seventh place with 18 points.

Fort Bend Marshall captured the team title with 86 points followed by Lancaster (56), Manvel, Tyler (30), Aledo (28), Amarillo (22), Shadow Creek, Denton Ryan (18), Mansfield Legacy (17), and Austin Johnson (15) to round out the top 10.

Friendswood finished in 50th place with one point.

Manvel Mavericks

Leading the way for Manvel was their two relay teams that scored the most points.

The 4x400 relay quartet of Xavier Carter, Davin Wilkins, Adam Mason, and Davyon Henderson placed second with a time of 3:16.34 to win the silver medal. Fort Bend Marshall won the event with a time of 3:14.22.

The 4x200 relay foursome of Carter, Henderson, Vinson Brown, and Wilkins placed third with a time of 126.34 with FB Marshall (1:23.38) and Lancaster (1:25.90) taking the top two places.

The 4x100 relay team placed sixth with a time 42.05 while FB Marshall also took first place with a time of 40.24 to complete the sweep of all three relays.

The only gold medal winner was junior Caleb Malbrough who won the Triple Jump with a leap of 48-01.50. Teammate Kameryn Alexander placed sixth with a distance of 46-00.50.

John Robinson also qualified for state for Manvel in the 300 meter hurdles and finished in fifth place with a time of 38.60.

The Manvel Lady Mavericks finished 13th in the state with 17 points while Lancaster won the state title with 60 points.

The 4x400 relay quartet of Rayah Wynn, Madison Sparrow, Desirae Roberts, and Ja'Daisia Sims won the silver medal for their second place finish with a time of 3:50.96. Fort Bend Marshall won that event with a time of 3:46.82.

Aryn Johnson placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.88.

Shadow Creek Sharks

The Shadow Creek boys were led by Ashton O'Conner who also returned home with a gold medal as the state champion in the 100 meters with a time of 10.48. O'Conner placed ninth in the 200 meters (21.98).

The 4x100 relay team of Lewis Palmer III, Carlton Guidry, Isaiah Harper, and O'Conner placed fourth with a time of 41.43.

The Shadow Creek girls scored nine points to finish 21st in the state.

Victoria Wright placed fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.16.

The 4x100 relay foursome of Mykler Roderique, LaMyia Styles, Celisa Cook, and Wright placed fifth with a time of 47.43.

Friendswood Mustangs

The Friendswood Mustangs scored one point and had two qualifiers in sophomore Daniel Armstrong who finished seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 49.83 and senior Michael Hermes who finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 6-04.

Dawson Lady Eagles

Sophomore Chrystal Herpin of Dawson took third place in the discus for a bronze medal with a throw of 146 feet, 11 inches and claimed fifth place in the shot put at 43 feet, 8 ¼ inches.

Lady Eagle Amari Ferguson finished eighth in the girls’ 100-hurdles with a time of 14.64.
