For the third straight season, Pearland head baseball coach David Rogers has seen his diamondmen advance to the Class 6A Region III Div I finals with a chance to return to the state baseball tournament for a third straight year.

Pearland (27-7) will face Atascocita (28-10-2) in the 6A Region III Div I best-of-three series finals with the winner advancing to Round Rock to the 6A state baseball tournament. The Oilers have won Region III the past two years in 2023 and 2024.

The Oilers and the Eagles will square off on Thursday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Schroeder Park on the UH Campus. Game 2 will be on Saturday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m. at Schroeder Park and Game 3 (if needed) will be at Schroeder Park 30 minutes after Game 2 ends.

The Oilers are peaking at the right time as they have allowed only one run in the last 42 innings while outscoring their opponents 35-1 during that stretch.

Pearland opened up the best-of-three region semifinal series against the Lamar Texans with a 7-0 shutout in the first game and closed out Game 2 with a 3-1 win that went eight innings.

In the opening game, Pearland jumped on Lamar with five runs in the first frame led by senior shortstop Nico Partida who greeted Lamar starter Bode Bromley with a solo blast over the centerfield wall for a quick 1-0 Pearland lead.

The Oilers followed with four more runs in the first inning for the early 5-0 lead.

Pearland added two more runs in the third to make the score 7-0 and then rode the shutout pitching of Grant Shepherd who gave up three hits, no runs, while striking out six and walking two to get the win.

The Pearland win gave them a 1-0 advantage in their best-of-three series.

Pearland 3 - Lamar 1

The second game of the best-of-three series with Lamar proved to be much more competitive but the results were still the same as the Oilers pulled out a 3-1 victory thanks to junior Hayden Mireles' two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning.

Meanwhile, All-State pitcher Nico Partida did his part in controlling the Lamar bats as he allowed only four hits, one run, while fanning 13 over seven and two-thirds innings while walking none.

Both teams scored a run in the second inning for a 1-1 tie which was the score at the end of regulation sending the game into an extra inning. A sacrifice fly by Hunter Golden sent Logan Johnson across the plate in the second frame.

The two-run homer by Mireles in the eighth gave the Oilers the 3-1 win to send them to the Class 6A Region III Div. I finals for the third straight year.

Leading hitters was Johnson (2-for-4, 2 runs), Mireles (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs) and Golden (1-for-3, 1 RBI).
