Adams, Lee, Wheaton take top 23-6A baseball honors

PEARLAND — Pearland head coach Chase Wheaton, in his first year at the helm of the Oilers baseball program, led them to the District 23-6A title and two rounds in the playoffs. The district coaches honored his strong leadership and the success of his team by naming him District "Coach of the Year" after leading Pearland to a 14-1 league record and a 22-8 overall.
Pearland senior Matt Adams received the top honor for the district players after he was named the league's "Most Valuable Player." Adams had a strong season on the mound as he pitched 50.1 innings while posting a 6-0 record with 59 strikeouts and a 2.64 ERA. He hit .242 going 15-for-62 with four doubles and one home run while scoring eight times and producing 13 RBIs.
Sophomore Connor Lee of Dawson was named "Newcomer of the Year" as he hit .250 going 9-for-36 with nine runs scored, six RBIs, three doubles, and one triple.
Pearland players named to the All-District first-team included:
Senior catcher Shawn Huber who hit .396 going 38-of-96 with 12 doubles, one triple, one home run, and 22 RBIs.
Senior outfielder Mason Lytle who hit .500 going 45-of-90 with nine doubles, one triple, 30 RBIs, and 30 runs scored.
Junior outfielder Cole Smajstrala who hit .346 going 28-of-81 with six doubles, one triple, 23 RBIs, and 26 runs scored.
Senior outfielder Heladio Moreno who hit .416 going 32-of-77 with four doubles, four triples, 17 RBIs, and 32 runs scored.
Junior designated hitter Clayton Broeder who hit .273 going 21-of-77 with six doubles, one triple, three home runs, 17 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.
Dawson had four players named to the All-District first-team which included:
Junior pitcher John Rawlinson who pitched 53 innings for a 1.85 ERA and a 4-2 mark while striking out 64.
Senior pitcher Tyler Langston who pitched 47.2 innings for a 2.50 ERA and a 3-1 record while striking out 57.
Sophomore first baseman Zach Mack who hit .333 going 26-of-78 with 16 RBIs, five doubles, and 14 runs scored.
Senior outfielder Jacob Carriere who hit .367 going 33-of-90 with 17 runs scored, 21 RBIs, nine doubles, two triples, and one home run.
Named to the All-District second-team for Pearland was junior pitcher Colby Casey, sophomore second baseman Carter Allen, and junior third baseman Brandon Sliwinski.
Named to the All-District second-team for Dawson was senior cater Luke Haas, junior second baseman Tristan Schwehr, junior third baseman Tristan Perry, senior outfielder Jalen Freeman, and junior outfielder Carter Ostrom.
